Indiana beauty queen’s funeral Tuesday

Miss Crawford County Abby Leigh Sutherland died in a one-car accident late Friday night near Palmyra, police have reported.

The driver was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville. The driver was not identified and police did not say if any charges are pending.

Sutherland, 20, was crowned Miss Crawford County earlier this year and was scheduled to take part in County Queens Day at the Indiana State Fair Aug. 16.

“We at the Indiana State Fair Queen Pageant are deeply saddened by the news of Abby’s passing,” the organization wrote on its Facebook page. “Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and the community of Crawford County.”

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

According to the funeral home, she was employed as a service technician at Heritage Ford in Corydon and was a hostess at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth.

Overlook told customers via its Facebook page Sunday it would be closed Tuesday to pay respect to Sutherland.
