Is a colt named Indianapolis headed for Kentucky Derby?

Come May, Andrew Luck might not be the Indianapolis colt garnering the most attention.

A colt named Indianapolis won the $75,000 San Pedro Stakes by 4¼ lengths at Santa Anita on Monday, and has positioned itself on a path to the Kentucky Derby.

Indianapolis is undefeated in two sprint starts, and Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, a three-time Kentucky Derby winner, said the colt would run in a stakes race next.

"We've always thought that he has that superstar status and he showed it today," Baffert said in a press release. "From here on out, hopefully up to the first Saturday in May, we'll put him on a schedule that will stretch him out and hopefully we'll win some big races. Keeping him healthy and happy, that's all we can really do."

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Indianapolis ran six furlongs in 1:08.80 and paid $3.20 and $2.10 as the 3-5 favorite.

Bred in Kentucky, Indianapolis was sold for $490,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearlings Sale, per the Handicapper's Edge.

Perhaps Indianapolis will have better luck than another similarly named colt, A.P. Indy. Sired by the great Seattle Slew, A.P. Indy won at Santa Anita in 1992, but was scratched from the Kentucky Derby the morning of the race.

A.P. Indy did however bounce back to win the 1992 Belmont Stakes and Breeders' Cup.

Would a colt named Indianapolis make you more inclined to watch (or bet on) the May 3 race?
