Paul Poteet: Partly sunny with cooler breezes today

Paul Poteet

A cold front moving through earlier today didn't produce much precipitation, but it did usher in a fresh, colder breeze from the northwest. That wind will gust to 30 mph at times today, and it's back to the upper 50s again for highs in Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie and Richmond. Indianapolis will be right around 60, and the low to mid 60s are likely south of Indy.

Patches of frost are likely tonight. The frost may be limited by the continuing wind, although the gusts should end after midnight. Chills will still sink into the upper 20s for some early Wednesday.

If we do see 32 degree temperatures tonight... we'll be close to average. Here are the average dates for the last spring freeze:

• April 17 - Indianapolis.

• April 18 - Columbus.

• April 21 - Terre Haute.

• April 25 - Muncie.

• April 25 - Anderson.

• April 30 - Lafayette.

Winds won't be as stiff Wednesday. The sun should be strong, and the temperatures still below average. We're off the weather hook until Thursday, when showers and storms are possible in the afternoon and likely in the evening.

The early word on the weekend is good Saturday and not so much, Sunday.
