Indianapolis singer Josh Kaufman will attempt to advance this week on televised talent search "The Voice."

As a member of Adam Levine's "Team Adam," Kaufman has cleared the blind auditions and next faces the battle round.

According to an NBC preview clip, Kaufman and teammate Austin Ellis will duel during a rendition of Pharrell Williams' "Happy" -- presently the No. 1 song in America.

For battles, "Voice" coaches Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher pit two team members against each other to sing the same song in front of a studio audience. After one singer is selected to advance, the other coaches are given the chance to "steal" the singer who didn't advance.

Levine enlisted the help of Aloe Blacc, presently at No. 12 on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 chart with his song "The Man," to prep Kaufman and Ellis for their battle.

According to "The Voice" website, Kaufman "supports his wife and three kids by playing local gigs and working as an SAT prep tutor."

Kaufman's soul-funk trio, the New Etiquette, issued a self-titled EP in 2012.

"The Voice," which airs this week at 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday on WTHR-13, offers a recording contract as its grand prize.
