Southport players celebrate after winning the 2014 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle Fieldhouse.

There is never a shortage of events to watch on the local high school basketball schedule. Here are five can’t-miss dates to mark on the calendar:

Dec. 12 — The third annual Forum Credit Union Tip Off Classic at Southport Fieldhouse should be the best one to date. Park Tudor meets Tri-West in the opener, followed by Warren Central vs. Crown Point (which features IU signee Grant Gelon), Brebeuf Jesuit vs. Fort Wayne Snider, Pike vs. New Albany, Lawrence Central vs. Cathedral and host Southport vs. East St. Louis (Ill.).

Dec. 22 — Want to watch basketball all day? Head to Marion, where an eight-game slate begins at 10 a.m. with Columbus North vs. Harrison. Danville vs. NorthWood, Tri-West vs. Covington, Warren Central vs. Liberty Christian, Gary Roosevelt vs. Lawrence North, Columbus East vs. Lawrence Central, Southport vs. Tech and Pike vs. Marion round out the schedule.

Dec. 30 — The City Securities Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle appears to be wide open this year. Lawrence Central meets McCutcheon and Martinsville vs. Carroll (Fort Wayne) are the early games with the championship that night.

Jan. 12-16 — The Marion County tournament always is appointment viewing. A first-round matchup between Lawrence Central and North Central will get it started. The semifinal games and championship will be played at Southport. The semifinals could be Southport-Lawrence North and Pike-Park Tudor. Pike is the defending champ.

Feb. 4 — A marquee doubleheader will be played at the renovated Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the State Fairgrounds. Love the idea. Lawrence North will play Carmel in the opener, and Lawrence Central vs. North Central is the nightcap.
