A Shelbyville man who was found guilty in a 2013 hit-and-run death of a 63-year-old Indianapolis woman was sentenced Friday to two years of home detention.

Greg Hudson was sentenced to five years, with three years suspended. He will serve the two years under home detention.

The sentence, issued by Marion Superior Judge Lisa Borges, comes about six weeks after he was found guilty of a charge of failure to stop at an accident causing death.

Police said he was driving near South Meridian Street and West Troy Avenue on the Southside at about 7 p.m. Jan. 13 when he struck and killed Kathleen Clark, who was on her way to a nearby bar. The owner of the Thirsty Turtle bar found Clark on a grassy area on the west side of Meridian Street the next morning.

Rick Clark, Kathleen Clark’s son, said justice was not served Friday in his mother’s death.

“This guy gets a slap on the hand for killing somebody. That’s my problem,” he said. “It just amazes me that somebody can leave the scene of an accident, hide for days and basically walk away with no penalty whatsoever.”

Rick Clark said his mother has been cremated and the family has not been able to afford a memorial service.

An anonymous tip led police officers to Hudson, who was arrested four days after the crash. He initially denied being at the scene the night Clark died, according to court documents. After investigators told him that pieces of his gold Ford F-150 pickup truck were found at the scene, Hudson admitted he was in the area but said he struck what he thought was a wooden barricade, court documents said.

Hudson, who does not have a criminal history, told detectives he pondered about turning himself in several times after finding out from news reports that he had struck a person.

Hudson will be on a two-year probation after he serves his sentence. His driver’s license is suspended for 180 days.
