ANDERSON, Ind. – The Indianapolis Colts addressed the need for a running back in the wake of Vick Ballard's season-ending injury by re-signing a familiar face.

The team signed Davin Meggett, who spent time with the Colts in 2012 and '13. To make room for the 5-8, 219-pounder, linebacker Aaron Morgan was placed on the injured reserve list with an undisclosed injury.

Meggett's addition follows the loss of Ballard, who will require season-ending surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon. He joins a running back group that includes Trent Richardson, Ahmad Bradshaw, Daniel Herron, Chris Rainey and Zurlon Tipton.

Meggett, son of two-time Pro Bowler, David Meggett, originally was signed by the Houston Texans in May 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland. He saw action in 50 games and totaled 2,469 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.
