Former Indianapolis 500 driver Robby Gordon hopes to bring his exciting stadium super truck series to IMS on Carb Day.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway still might host one of Robby Gordon's ramp-jumping stadium super-truck races on the Indianapolis 500's Carb Day (May 23, approximately 2:30 p.m.).

IMS president Doug Boles confirmed Saturday that one of the Speed Energy Formula Off-Road trucks will test sometime around April 24 depending on Gordon's schedule. It's expected that Gordon, the owner of the series, will perform the test.

The circuit will include Turns 12, 13 and 14 of the reconfigured road course (inside Turn 1 of the oval track) along with part of the oval's first turn. Boles said any damage to the IMS surface from the truck's hard landings will keep the series from racing.

Gordon's series has listed Indianapolis as a location for an event since its schedule was announced, but it still hasn't named a site. Gordon vowed to race elsewhere in Indianapolis if IMS doesn't work out.

The series held two races at last month's Verizon IndyCar Series' opener in St. Petersburg, Fla., and will race Sunday at 3 p.m. (Indianapolis time) as a preliminary to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

The series uses 10 trucks assembled by Gordon's staff at his former NASCAR shop near Charlotte, N.C. Drivers spend $25,000 per event and have the opportunity to trade trucks with Gordon, who races, if they don't like the truck they're assigned.

This is the second year for the series. Jimmy Vasser, Davey Hamilton and PJ Jones are among the notable drivers who have joined Gordon in races. EJ Viso is in Sunday's field. Gordon and Jones won the races in St. Petersburg; Gordon was last year's series champion.

Hamilton called the racing "wild." He crashed in one of the St. Petersburg races.

Gordon has competed in 10 Indianapolis 500s, the most recent in 2004. He finished fourth in 1999, fifth in 1994 and '95, and sixth in 2000. He talked about competing this year, but a deal has not materialized.
