Update:

A 26-year-old woman was arrested in two shootings, one of them fatal, Friday night on Indianapolis' southwest side.

Rebecca Lawson was taken into custody at the scene of the shootings in the 3400 block of South Lyndhurst Drive, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said, after she surrendered peacefully at the scene.

Police responded to the scene of a shooting at 8:47 p.m., where they found 35-year-old Patrick Brown and 38-year-old Cecilia Land with gunshot wounds. Brown was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in "very critical condition," where he died a short while later. Land is still hospitalized in critical but stable condition, IMPD said.

Detectives say Lawson drove past Brown's residence and noticed Land's vehicle parked outside. She talked to Brown to retrieve property inside the residence and then became upset, police said, when she learned Land was inside the home.

Lawson shot both victims, police said, after a disturbance outside the home.

She then called 911 and surrendered to officers when they arrived.

Police said three children were also in the home at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

Lawson was arrested on preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder and taken to the Arrestee Processing Center.

The Marion County prosecutor's office will decide on final charges.

A man is dead and a woman remains in critical condition after a shooting Friday night on Indianapolis' southwest side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were initially called about 8:45 p.m. to a residence in the 3400 block of South Lynhurst Drive on a report of a person shot.

When police arrived at the home, about 100 yards off Lynhurst to the east, officers found two people with gunshot wounds.

Both victims, a man and a woman, were taken to Eskenazi Hospital in "very critical condition," said IMPD Deputy Chief of Patrol Valerie Cunningham. The man was later pronounced dead.

Scene in the 3400 block of S. Lynhurst Drive where a shooting left one man dead and a woman critically injured.

"We do have a (woman) here on scene that is going to be transported to the homicide office for questioning as to their involvement in the incident," Cunningham said.

Three children were also in the home at the time of the shooting, police said, but were not injured. Investigators were able to contact a parent of the children to come get them.

Detectives think at least one of the victims lived in the home, but the circumstances of the shooting are unclear. Police said the victims also may have been involved in a relationship at one time.

"It's a very confusing scene up there," Cunningham said.

This story is breaking and will be updated.
