Indiana's Tom Crean's compensation was the 9th-highest among Division I coaches.

USA TODAY Sports released their annual database of Division I men's basketball coaches salaries.

As you'd expect, Kentucky's John Calipari leads the way with $6,356,756 in total compensation, nearly a $1 million increase from the previous year.

Some of the sport's top names are understandably near the top. Duke's Mike Krzyzewski is the second-highest paid coach ($6,043,979) with Michigan State's Tom Izzo ranking fifth ($4,006,955).

The Final Four's other coach, Wisconsin's Bo Ryan, rounds out the top 10, earning $2,946,000.

The coach directly above Ryan at No. 9 is a familiar one to Indiana fans. IU's Tom Crean pulled in $3,046,250, ninth-highest in the country.

Crean's Hoosiers finished this season 20-14 (9-9 in the Big Ten) and lost to Wichita State in the Round of 64 in the NCAA tournament. Rumors of a coaching change persisted, but IU athletic director Fred Glass put those to rest last week and said there's no need to worry about Crean's pricey buyout.

Matt Painter is among the nation's top 20 highest paid coaches.

Purdue's Matt Painter's $2,428,795 puts him at 18th, Notre Dame's Mike Brey is 35th at $1,526,488 and Valparaiso's Bryce Drew ranks 56th with $285,927.

Painter guided the Big Ten's surprise team to a 12-6 league record and returned the Boilers to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012.

Numbers weren't provided for Butler's Chris Holtmann, who filled in for Brandon Miller before being named the Bulldogs' permanent head coach in January. Holtmann guided Butler to the Big East's second-best record and was rewarded with a contract extension this week.
