Time to load the kids in the minivan, bring along some cookies and hot chocolate and take a drive to view the many neighborhoods around Indianapolis that are decked our for the holidays.

Whether neatly organized and synchronized to music or a mish-mash of inflatables and blinking lights strung on every tree branch and inch of the house (every neighborhood has one), we've compiled some of the most popular areas recommended by Indianapolis Star readers.

This new entry on our list garnered over 20 votes this year. Readers called Joel Dearing's home "creative and very well done. Has a very high production value and professional touch without being too "corporate." Very entertaining and engrossing."

2. 4743 Ferguson Rd. (Southeast)

This southeastside home is a perennial favorite with it's tasteful array of white lights. Readers call it "a white, twinkling winter wonderland!"

Readers note this eastside home puts them in the holiday spirit every year. "Exceptional sync and display of lights to music. Beautiful and festive beyond belief."

This Williams Creek home is described by readers as "Awesome" and "Incredible". Another reader says, "This is a unique and beautiful display, showing originality and beauty while depicting fun and joy of this holiday season! The dripping lights off the trees was a beautiful addition! Coordinated with music, it is easy to just sit and watch and not just a quick drive by!"

5. 2401 Tulip Dr. (South)

Another repeat from last year's list. The owner, Greg Schaub has been creating his display for nearly 30 years. Santa's sleigh runs across the roof while Schaub hands out candy canes as the people stop to take it all in.

"A true delight for kids, with present bearing trains and tractors, to a gingerbread wonderland" notes one reader.

7. For those of you in the Anderson area:

2221 Winding Way in the town of Edgewood received several votes. One person who nominated the home noted that the town of Edgewood places a "Christmas Street" sign across from the display.
