NFL free agency 2015: Who is left for the Colts?

The Colts have the sixth-most available cap space heading into free agency.

Ndamukong Suh, DeMarco Murray and Pernell McPhee figure to get plenty of interest in free agency.

Here's your chance to keep up with NFL free agency. Prior to the free agent market officially opening Tuesday afternoon, we ranked the top available players at each position. We will continue to update this list as players make their moves.

Here's a look at the top players available at each position, in addition to Insider Stephen Holder's comments on the Colts' needs at each:

QUARTERBACK

It's a pretty shallow QB crop this season.

1. Mark Sanchez, Philadelphia -- signed with Philadelphia

2. Josh McCown, Tampa Bay — signed with Cleveland

3. Brian Hoyer, Cleveland

4. Jake Locker, Tennessee -- retiring

5. Ryan Mallett, Houston -- re-signed with Houston

6. Matt Hasselbeck, Indianapolis — re-signed with Colts

7. Michael Vick, N.Y. Jets

8. Matt Moore, Miami

9. Colt McCoy, Washington

10. Shaun Hill, St. Louis -- signing with Minnesota

Best of the rest: Christian Ponder, Minnesota; Matt Flynn, Green Bay; Tavaris Jackson, Seattle

It's a thin QB crop led by Sanchez, who got a second chance after Nick Foles' season-ending injury in November. He had his moments, but finished 4-4 as a starter with 14 TDs and 11 INTs and was unable to get the Eagles into the playoffs... The Browns are taking a wait-and-see approach with Johnny Manziel, so adding McCown makes sense, but his arrival likely means Hoyer will head elsewhere... Locker figures to be another QB looking for a new home. Tennessee is ready to go with Zach Mettenberger (or perhaps use the No. 2 overall pick on a QB) and move on from Locker, who's greatest opponent has been health... Despite his free agent status, Mallett is fondly thought of by Texans GM Rick Smith and coach Bill O'Brien, who both made comparisons between Tom Brady and the former Patriots understudy.

Colts outlook: They're all set. Getting Hasselbeck under contract last week behind franchise quarterback Andrew Luck took quarterback off the to-do list.

RUNNING BACK

DeMarco Murray headlines a list of available productive rushers.

1. DeMarco Murray, Dallas

2. Mark Ingram, New Orleans -- re-signed with New Orleans

3. Justin Forsett, Baltimore

4. Frank Gore, San Francisco -- signed with Colts

5. C.J. Spiller, Buffalo

6. Ryan Mathews, San Diego -- signed with Philadelphia

7. Knowshon Moreno, Miami

8. Darren McFadden, Oakland

9. Shane Vereen, New England -- signed with N.Y. Giants

10. Reggie Bush, Detroit

Best of the rest: Roy Helu, Washington (signed with Raiders); Ahmad Bradshaw, Indianapolis; DeAngelo Williams, Carolina; Chris Johnson, N.Y. Jets; Ray Rice, Baltimore; Ben Tate, Pittsburgh.

It'll likely take big money for Murray to leave Dallas, and some teams may be gun-shy about spending big on a back coming off a season in which he touched the ball 449 times, 6th most in NFL history... A disappointment in his first three seasons, Ingram took advantage of injuries to teammates and flashed the ability that made him a first round pick. Ingram could thrive in a larger role. In the five games he had more than 20 carries, he averaged 116.2 yards... Forsett had a breakout season with 1,266 rushing yards (fifth-best in the league) on his way to a Pro Bowl nod. But what kind of market is out there for a career journeyman?... The 49ers say they want Gore back and he'll be 32 when the season starts... Spiller, Mathews, Moreno and McFadden all come with injury-risk and haven't lived up to their lofty draft position.

Colts outlook: This is a position to watch. Trent Richardson seems destined to be cut and Ahmad Bradshaw is a free agent (and coming off another injury). Murray might be too rich for the Colts' tastes at this position, but maybe his market value isn't as high as he hopes.

WIDE RECEIVER

The wide receivers available provide plenty of star power.

1. Dez Bryant, Dallas -- franchise tagged

2. Demaryius Thomas, Denver -- franchise tagged

3. Randall Cobb, Green Bay -- re-signed with Green Bay

4. Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia -- signed with Kansas City

5. Andre Johnson, Houston

6. Torrey Smith, Baltimore -- signed with San Francisco

7. Michael Crabtree, San Francisco

8. Cecil Shorts III, Jacksonville

9. Kenny Britt, St. Louis

10. Eddie Royal, San Diego

11. Hakeem Nicks, Indianapolis

Best of the rest: Denarius Moore, Oakland; Brian Hartline, Miami (signed with Cleveland); Stevie Johnson, San Francisco; Nate Washington, Tennessee; Harry Douglas, Atlanta (signed with Tennessee); Jacoby Jones, Baltimore (signed with San Diego).

The Texans' expected decision of releasing Johnson added a little star-power to a receiving corps that saw the top options picked up quickly. ... After missing all of 2013, Maclin had a career year last season, finishing in the top 10 in both receiving yards and TDs... Torrey Smith is coming off his worst statistical season as Steve Smith cut into his production. Expect him to land elsewhere... There's some value to be had at the backend of the crop with big body targets Britt and Nicks potentially getting the benefit of the doubt because of previous production.

Colts outlook: There's a lot of quality youth at this position in Indy, but a veteran presence might be needed, especially after the decision not to re-sign Reggie Wayne.

TIGHT END

Julius Thomas could be on his way out of Denver, but where?

1. Julius Thomas, Denver -- signed with Jacksonville

2. Charles Clay, Miami - transition tagged

3. Jordan Cameron, Cleveland

4. Jermaine Gresham, Cincinnati

5. Owen Daniels, Baltimore -- signed with Denver

6. Niles Paul, Washington -- re-signed with Washington

7. Rob Housler, Arizona

8. Virgil Green, Denver -- re-signed with Denver

Thomas' 24 TDs over the past two seasons are second among tight ends only to Jimmy Graham's 26. Now that Denver used the franchise tag on Demaryius Thomas, Julius figures to attract plenty of attention... Cameron's 2014 season was ravaged by injury, but folks will hope to get the 2013 version of Cameron, which resulted in 80 catches and a Pro Bowl... A Pro Bowler earlier in his career, Gresham has seen a decline in his production over the past two seasons and averaged a paltry 7.4 yards a reception last year.

Colts outlook: This is one of the Colts' greatest areas of strength, with Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen. They are not in the market for a consequential free-agent signing here.

OFFENSIVE TACKLE

Joe Reitz (left) proved valuable as a swing tackle for the Colts last season.

1. Bryan Bulaga, Green Bay -- re-signed with Green Bay

2. Doug Free, Dallas -- re-signed with Dallas

3. Joe Barksdale, St. Louis

4. Derek Newton, Houston -- re-signed with Houston

5. King Dunlap, San Diego -- re-signed with San Diego

6. Byron Bell, Carolina

7. Tyler Polumbus, Washington

8. Jason Fox, Miami

9. Ryan Harris, Kansas City

10. Joe Reitz, Indianapolis -- re-signed with Colts

Best of the rest: Corey Hilliard, Detroit; Marshall Newhouse, Cincinnati; Michael Oher, Tennessee (signed with Carolina); Jeremy Parnell, Dallas (signed with Jacksonville); Erin Winston, Cincinnati.

It's rare difference makers at the tackle position reach the open market, so expect the Packers to focus on re-signing Bulaga and risk losing Randall Cobb instead... Free started 11 games at right tackle for the Cowboys, but missed five games with foot and ankle injures. Prior to missing time, he had started every game for Dallas from 2010-2013... A 16-game starter for the Rams last season, Barksdale at just 27 years old figures to get plenty of interest... Reitz proved to be a capable and versatile contributor when called upon the Colts offensive line, but may be more valuable as a swing tackle rather than entrenched starter.

Colts outlook: So long as the Colts are confident Gosder Cherilus will rebound from his assorted injuries in 2014, there's no need to go out and invest richly here. But depth could be an issue with Xavier Nixon fizzling and free agent Joe Reitz still unsigned.

INTERIOR LINEMEN

What kind of market is out there for All-Pro guard Mike Iuapati (center)?

1. Mike Iupati, San Francisco -- signed with Arizona

2. Rodney Hudson, Kansas City -- signed with Oakland

3. Orlando Franklin, Denver -- signed with San Diego

4. Stefen Wisniewski, Oakland

5. Clint Boling, Cincinnati -- re-signed with Cincinnati

6. James Carpenter, Seattle

7. Justin Blalock, Atlanta

8. Todd Herremans, Philadelphia -- signed with Colts

9. Brian De La Puente, Chicago

10. Rob Sims, Detroit

Best of the rest: Will Montgomery, Denver; Domonic Raiola, Detroit.

Iupati is a three-time Pro Bowler, is hitting free agency in his prime (28) and should garner plenty of interest... A four-year starter in Denver, Franklin moved to guard after playing right tackle his first three seasons. He's massive and versatile. Expect a heavy market... Another four-year starter, Wisniewski is one of the better young centers in the league (25)... Injury limited Herremans to just eight games in 2012 and 2014, and the Eagles cut the veteran guard. But an effective starter when healthy, Herremans should find a market for his services.

Colts outlook: There are still major questions facing the Colts at right guard and center. Those positions need to be solidified, and it's still unclear whether the answers can be provided by players currently on the roster. This is an area where the Colts could make a move of note.

PASS RUSHER

Colts could some pass rush help. Where will they turn?

1. Justin Houston, Kansas City -- franchise tagged

2. Jason Pierre Paul, N.Y. Giants -- franchise tagged

3. Greg Hardy, Carolina

4. Jerry Hughes, Buffalo -- re-signed with Buffalo

5. Pernell McPhee, Baltimore -- signed with Chicago

6. Derrick Morgan, Tennessee

7. Brandon Graham, Philadelphia -- re-signed with Philadelphia

8. Brian Orakpo, Washington

9. Jabaal Sheard, Cleveland

10. Trent Cole, Philadelphia -- signed with Colts

Best of the rest: Karl Klug, Tennessee; Jarvis Jenkins, Washington; Adrian Clayborn, Tampa Bay; Anthony Spencer, Dallas; O'Brien Schofield, Seattle; George Johnson, Detroit; Dwight Freeney, San Diego.

Hardy's talent isn't questioned, but his off-the-field issues and the league's stricter policy on domestic violence clouds his free agency... Hughes was a bust here in Indy and was traded to Buffalo for a backup LB. With the luxury of playing alongside Mario Williams, Hughes is coming off back-to-back 10-sack seasons... With Chuck Pagano's affinity to raid his former team (Baltimore) for defenders, many have linked McPhee with the Colts... Morgan, Graham and Orakpo were all first round picks and have shown the ability to rush the passer. Morgan has at least six sacks in each of the last three seasons, while Orakpo, who has 40 career sacks, has struggled with health, missing half the season last year.

Colts outlook: The lack of production from Bjoern Werner is concerning, and Robert Mathis still must re-establish himself after suffering a torn Achilles tendon last September. With a more consistent pass rush, the Colts could take their defense to a different level.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE

Ndamukong Suh provides star power to a deep DT free agent class.

1. Ndamukong Suh, Detroit -- signed with Miami

2. Jared Odrick, Miami -- signed with Jacksonville

3. Terrance Knighton, Denver

4. Dan Williams, Arizona

5. Nick Fairley, Detroit

6. Stephen Paea, Chicago -- signed with Washington

7. Vince Wilfork, New England

8. B.J. Raji, Green Bay

9. Henry Melton, Chicago

10. Corey Peters, Atlanta

Best of the rest: Cory Redding, Indianapolis (signed with Arizona); Barry Cofield, Washington; Darnell Dockett, Arizona (signed with San Francisco); Ahtyba Rubin, Cleveland; C.J. Mosley, Detroit; Cedric Thornton, Philadelphia; Kendall Langford, St. Louis (signed with Colts).

We know who the headliner is (Suh) and by Detroit declining to franchise tag him, it means he'll hit the open market and break the bank... Knighton gained attention for his creative nickname 'Pot Roast' but he's been plugging the middle of Denver's defense the last two seasons with great effect... Like Knighton, Williams is the prototypical run-stuffer at 330 lbs. and should have a market... Suh's Lions teammate Fairley isn't quite the catch his linemate is, but he's got the first round pedigree, though injuries are a concern... There wasn't much good about the Bears' defense last season, but Paea was a rare bright spot, providing six sacks from the defensive interior.

Colts outlook: The decision to move on from Ricky Jean Francois and the possible retirement of defensive end Cory Redding make this position a priority. Plus, did you see how the Patriots' running game steamrolled through the Colts in the regular season and the playoffs? They need an answer up front.

LINEBACKER

Bruce Carter, Jason Worilds and David Harris are set to hit the open market.

1. Jason Worilds, Pittsburgh

2. Sean Weatherspoon, Atlanta

3. David Harris, N.Y. Jets -- re-signed with Jets

4. Brandon Spikes, Buffalo

5. Rolando McClain, Dallas

6. Mason Foster, Tampa Bay

7. Bruce Carter, Dallas

8. Brooks Reed, Houston -- signed with Atlanta

9. Rey Maualuga, Cincinnati -- re-signed with Cincinnati

10. Akeem Ayers, New England

Best of rest: Lance Briggs, Chicago; Arthur Moats, Pittsburgh (re-signed with Pittsburgh); Malcolm Smith, Seattle; Colin McCarty, Tennessee; Nate Irving, Denver; A.J. Hawk, Green Bay (signed with Cincinnati); Justin Durant, Dallas (signed with Atlanta); Larry Foote, Arizona.

After missing half of 2013 and all of 2014 to injury, Weatherspoon's health is a major concern, but the former first round pick is still just 27... If you need tackles, Harris is your guy. He's had more than 120 tackles in five of his eight seasons with the Jets... McClain returned to the NFL after walking away and proved a key piece to the Cowboys defense. However, his off-the-field issues propped up again with a pending four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy... Carter, another Cowboys LB, finished the season strong and has a knack for the big play.

Colts outlook: Taking edge rushers out of the equation, the Colts are likely to again lean on D'Qwell Jackson and Jerrell Freeman as their inside linebackers. However, depth is an issue, particularly with Josh McNary still facing a rape charge that has not yet been adjudicated and Andrew Jackson released after two DUIs.

CORNERBACK

Where will Darrelle Revis (right) wind up?

1. Darrelle Revis, New England -- signed with N.Y. Jets

2. Byron Maxwell, Seattle -- signed with Philadeplhia

3. Brandon Flowers, San Diego -- re-signed with San Diego

4. Kareem Jackson, Houston -- re-signed with Houston

5. Antonio Cromartie, Arizona

6. Chris Culver, San Francisco

7. Tramon Williams, Green Bay

8. Buster Skirne, Cleveland -- signed with N.Y. Jets

9. Perish Cox, San Francisco

10. Walter Thurmond, N.Y. Giants

Best of the rest: Davon House, Green Bay; Patrick Robinson, New Orleans; Charles Tillman, Chicago; Jimmy Wilson, Miami; Rashean Mathis, Detroit; Darius Butler, Indianapolis (re-signed with Indianapolis); Alan Ball, Jacksonville; Bradley Flecther, Philadelphia; Kyle Wilson, N.Y. Jets; Sterling Moore, Dallas; Tarrell Brown, Oakland.

The Patriots aren't likely to pick up Revis' option, sending him into free agency. He's not the All-Pro shutdown corner he was a few seasons ago, but he's still the best available corner... For teams looking to replicate the Seahawks' use of big, physical corners, they may be tempted to to pry Maxwell loose... Cut by the Chiefs after a Pro Bowl season in 2013, Flowers started 14 games for San Diego last season... Jackson has been a five-year starter for the Texans and at 26, should be popular if Houston doesn't re-sign him... Thurmond signed with the Giants last offseason after gaining notice for his slot play for the Seahawks, but injury cost him all but two games in 2014 and he's back on the market again.

Colts outlook: The Colts have some urgency to address this position, whether by re-signing Darius Butler or finding a suitable replacement if he walks in free agency. The nickel cornerback role is critical for the Colts – and all teams, really – because of their extensive use of the nickel defense.

SAFETY

Plenty of help available at safety.

1. Devin McCourty, New England -- re-signed with New England

2. Rahim Moore, Denver

3. Da'Norris Searcy, Buffalo -- signed with Tennessee

4. Antrell Rolle, N.Y. Giants

5. Kendrick Lewis, Houston

6. Mike Adams, Indianapolis -- re-signed with Colts

7. Ron Parker, Kansas City

8. Tyvon Branch, Oakland -- signed with Kansas City

9. Louis Delmas, Miami

10. Dawan Landry, N.Y. Jets

Best of the rest: Stevie Brown, N.Y. Giants; Marcus Gilchrist, San Diego; Nate Allen, Philadelphia; LaRon Landry, Indianapolis; Danieal Manning, Houston;Jeron Johnson, Seattle; Dwight Lowery, Atlanta; Darian Stewart, Baltimore.

A versatile playmaker, McCourty has been a five-year starter for the Patriots and if New England can't swing a deal to keep him, he'll be a very popular man... Moore is just 25 years old and had more interceptions last year (4) than in his previous three seasons combined... Searcy has proven to be able to both the pass and run and should find a market... Branch has played just five games combined the last two seasons, but when healthy, he's a tackling machine.

Colts outlook: This position needs to be high on the Colts' wish list. There was way too much instability at safety last season and that remains the case now with LaRon Landry released and Mike Adams and Sergio Brown entering free agency. Adams will likely re-sign but there is still a tremendous need here.
