Griffith and Hammond high schools will participate in the boys basketball state tournament, following a preliminary injunction granted by Lake Superior Court Judge John R. Pera, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association had banned both schools from postseason play among penalties following a brawl in a game between their teams on Feb. 7.

However, after an IHSAA review committee upheld the penalties, the schools went to court seeking a restraining order.

Class 3A Sectional 17 will now include seven schools. It will begin Thursday and continue with the championship game scheduled for March 9.
