Indianapolis police are investigating after two women were shot and killed late Saturday in an Eastside home.

About 10:24 p.m., officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 4100 block of East New York Street on a report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, officers found two women, later identified as 34-year-old India Barnes and 34-year-old Tomika Mack, both of Indianapolis, with apparent gunshot wounds, police said. A short time later, medics arrived and pronounced both women dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that the residence is a halfway house with units on both sides of the building, police said.  Earlier in the day, officers were called to a disturbance at the same location, and police are working to determine if that incident was connected to Saturday night's double homicide.

"Several witnesses were transported to the IMPD Homicide Branch for questioning," an IMPD news release said. "Detectives continue to interview witnesses and gathering pertinent information relative to this case."

Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
