A 77-year-old man was critically wounded early Tuesday evening in a stabbing on the city's southeast side, police said.

Indianapolis police officers were called to the 1500 block of East Raymond Street, near the I-65 exit, on a report of a person stabbed.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m. and found a man suffering from at least one stab wound inside a home on Raymond.

Emergency medical personnel took him to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment. On Wednesday morning, he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive the attack, police said.

Detectives also responded to the scene and talked to witnesses to determine how the man was stabbed. Police said the incident does not appear to be a home invasion.
