Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, speaks to a crowd during the 84th annual United States Conference of Mayors at the J.W. Marriott Indianapolis on June 26, 2016.

Presidential candidates often try to glom onto popular trends. Sometimes this works. For instance, Hillary Clinton herself has had some success with this through her Twitter account, like with her now-infamous "Delete your account" tweet to Donald Trump, or her response to his "Frozen" defense of the Star of David with "Do you want to build a strawman?"

But when it's spoken out loud, it sometimes doesn't work as well. Case in point:

Yes, "Pokemon Go" has consumed pop culture in the last week. But that doesn't necessarily mean it belongs in a stump speech.Twitter, of course, wasted no time in firing back.

Trump's Cinco de Mayo tweet breaks the Internet

This Twitter user totally called it ahead of time.

Others tried to imagine past presidents using the same kind of rhetorical construct.

Some saw it as a sign of defeat.

Then, there were just jokes.

Trump had his own "Pokemon Go" video, sent just minutes after Clinton's speech. But his had a less positive tone:

Did we mention Clinton is having a campaign event at a Pokestop next week? So stay tuned for more.
