Scene of fatal shooting in the 2300 block of Magnolia Place at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

A man who was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition Saturday night following a shooting on the city's east side has died, according to police.

Dangelo Brown, 26, died hours after being shot at a residence in the 2300 block of Magnolia Place. Another victim, 32-year-old Justin Sims, was pronounced dead on the scene.

A 3-year-old boy also was injured in the shooting. He is in serious but stable condition at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, according to a news release.

Family and friends had gathered at the home near East 21st Street and Arlington Avenue following a funeral earlier in the day, IMPD Chief Deputy Valerie Cunningham said.

"They gathered together to bond over that loss, and here we have another tragedy," Cunningham said.

Police believe a lone gunman approached the gathering, which was held to celebrate the life of a loved one following a funeral earlier in the day, and began shooting into the crowd, according to the news release. The suspect then fled on foot.

Investigators are still trying to determine what the suspect's motive was, but are calling the incident a targeted shooting.

Police responded to a call of shots fired at approximately 6:30 p.m., Cunningham said. In transit, it became clear that a child had also been shot.

Neighbors are shown gathering at the scene of a fatal shooting in the 2300 block of Magnolia Place on Indianapolis' east side.

Once on scene, officers searched for the child and identified two additional victims. One, later identified as Sims, was pronounced dead on scene, while the other, Brown, was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in "extremely critical condition," Cunningham said.

The 3-year-old was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health and was expected to recover.

More than 10 witnesses were interviewed by police.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident or the shooter to contact either Indiana Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477 or the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Unit at 317-327-3475.
