Amber Campbell competes during the women's hammer throw qualifying in the 2016 U.S. Olympic track and field team trials at Hayward Field.

Pike High School graduate Amber Campbell, 35, repeated as Olympic Trials champ on her last hammer throw with distance of 242 feet, 10 inches, a trials record.

It's her lifetime best and best by an American this year, No. 4 on all-time U.S. list.

Before the throw, she was already in third place and assured a spot on her third Olympic team.

"Man, that was such a blast," she told reporters after winning. "I had so much fun. I was just trying to dig deep. I knew after my fifth throw I was on the team.

"I was just trying to have some fun, let it rip and see what happens."

She still has goals in mind heading to Rio.

"The goal always was to win," she said. "It's a competition. I don't want to just be here and look cute. I want to go for the win. I wanted that record. I was actually really, fricking hoping for the American record. We'll see if I can get that in Rio."

The American record is 248-5, set by Amanda Bingson in 2013.
