Ball State University President Jo Ann Gora sees "blue skies" ahead for the university as well as "bright days ahead for our community."

Gora announced her retirement on Saturday, effective after spring semester.

She met with the media this afternoon to answer questions.

The president said she was proud of immersive learning; the geothermal heating and cooling project that garnered national publicity; the appearance on campus of David Letterman, Oprah Winfrey and others; fundraising; the collaboration between the university and Muncie, and other achievements.

She and her husband will move to their home in Williamsburg, Va., but expect to return to Muncie to visit. She said she won't miss "the long days and long nights" required of a college president.
