Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has made an arrest in the killing of 27-year-old Joshua Thomas.

Cory Woody, 42, Indianapolis, is being held by the Indiana Department of Corrections on unrelated charges, but a statement from IMPD says the Marion County prosecutor's office will charge Woody with murder, felony murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury in connection with the September 2015 shooting of Thomas.

On Sept. 25, officers arrived at the 4700 block of Crestview Avenue after a 911 caller indicated hearing "popping" noises coming from inside a Chevrolet SUV. Officers discovered a man, later identified as Thomas, inside the vehicle with a gunshot would to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident occurred on a day that saw five people shot, three — including Thomas — fatally, in less than eight hours.

The string of violence began around 9:15 p.m. after a shooting involving a heroin deal at Lexington Park Apartments on 39th Street. Two were injured in this incident.

Two hours later, officers reported to the 3800 block of Bennett Drive. A man, who had been shot multiple times outside an apartment building in the Pangea Parkwest Apartments complex, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as Gregory Paffumi, 19.

Officers reported to the Crestview shooting about 30 minutes after the Pangea Parkwest incident.

Then, early Saturday morning, another fatal shooting was reported in the 3300 block of Carrollton Avenue. A man identified as Antwan Ogletree, 35, was found inside a home suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
