Two women hold one another in the 4400 block of Ralston Avenue Wednesday night where three people were found shot, one fatally, inside a car.

Update:  A second man has died of injuries suffered in a shooting on the north side Wednesday.

Dajuan Mitchell, 29, Indianapolis, died at Eskenazi Hospital, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department news release emailed to IndyStar late Thursday.

Wesley Small, 24, also died and a woman was critically injured in the shooting about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near 44th Street and Ralston Avenue.

Earlier: The steady hum of cicadas on the north side Wednesday night was broken only by a few tense moments of grieving loved ones who came running to the scene where three people were found shot inside a car.

Police had received a call shortly before 10:30 p.m. and were told shots had been fired somewhere near 44th Street and Ralston Avenue. The caller, police said, could hear a woman screaming.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived in the area to find three people suffering from gunshot wounds, one of them fatally, police said.

The other two victims, a man and woman, police said, were taken by medics to Eskenazi hospital in critical condition.

It was unclear Wednesday night where the deceased male, later identified as Wesley Small, 24, was sitting in the car, or if there were any weapons found in the vehicle.

The shooting comes just 48 hours after three other people were shot on the city's east side during a drive-by shooting.
