Carmel closed the intersection of Gray Road and 116th Street today  after morning rush hour for construction of a new roundabout.

Carmel-based Gradex will build the $2.4 million roundabout. Officials anticipate the busy intersection will open to traffic in 75 days.

Those who frequently drive through Carmel will have to grow accustomed to such closures. Carmel is moving forward with $229 million worth of locally funded work to build 32 roundabouts and other infrastructure improvements over the next three years.

Work also is underway for a roundabout at Range Line Road and Carmel Drive, and for widening projects along both 126th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway.
