Fogle points finger at girl's parents in new court documents

Former Subway pitchman Jared Fogle is arguing in court documents filed Thursday that the parents of a girl who a lawsuit says was victimized by Fogle are responsible for her emotional distress.

He is asking a judge to allow him to add the parents as defendants in a lawsuit the parents filed against him in March.

The request, filed Thursday, is a response to the suit's allegations that Fogle and his co-defendant, Russell Taylor, caused the girl emotional distress when she was videotaped in Taylor's home.

The parents sued Fogle, Taylor and Taylor's wife, Angela, in March on behalf of the girl, who is referred to as Jane Doe in the complaint.

From 2011 to 2015, the girl spent time at the Taylors' home, the lawsuit says, where Russell Taylor had secretly installed hidden cameras. The girl was videotaped showering, bathing and changing, according to the complaint.

Russell Taylor shared and discussed the videos with Fogle, the lawsuit says.

Fogle filed a motion Thursday that asks the court to allow him to add the parents as third-party defendants in the case, accusing them of inflicting damage on the girl.

The motion also asks the court to allow him to do so using only the parents' initials to protect the girl's privacy.

"Fogle has been provided with documented evidence which indicates that Jane Doe’s parents, through their actions, caused or significantly contributed to the injuries and damages alleged by Jane Doe in her complaint against the defendants," Fogle's motion reads.

The judge has not ruled on the motion.

Fogle was sentenced to nearly 16 years in a federal prison in November after he pleaded guilty to possession or distribution of child pornography and traveling across state lines to have commercial sex with a minor. Taylor, formerly the head of Fogle's charitable foundation, was sentenced to 27 years in prison in December.

Fogle, a native of the Indianapolis area, became a well-known name after he lost weight on a Subway diet.
