John Gregg is wrong on education policy

More bad news for John Gregg: Indiana’s unemployment rate fell below the national average and sits at 4.5 percent — and it seems every day there are new jobs announcements.

Gregg’s chances for governor continue to shrink along with the unemployment rate.

So what does he emphasize besides bringing higher-wage jobs to Indiana? His plan is to “empower teachers” and avoid “teaching to the test.” This is admirable but, given the fact that substantial funding and, therefore control of local education comes from his friends in Washington, how does he propose to do what he says?

We in Indiana do have a historic opportunity, though. We have a nearly $2.4 billion surplus that can be used over the next 10 years to extract our state’s education system from the dirty hands of Washington. We can empower not only teachers, but parents by giving vouchers to parents so they can choose the school that best fits the needs of their children. Gregg, much of the “education establishment” and the Democratic Party believe they know what’s best for your child. They think they care more about your child than you do. Clearly, if they do, then you should vote for Gregg and the entire Democrat slate.

As for Gregg getting higher-wage jobs, he hasn’t a clue. John Gregg’s crowning achievement as Indiana speaker of the House was the gerrymandering he did to try to keep Republicans from claiming power in the state legislature. It ultimately failed ... just like his candidacy for governor is about to if the public is told the truth by our print and broadcast media.
