UPDATE: Monday afternoon, Brownsburg High School assistant principal Kert Boedicker updated students, parents and faculty on the status of Bullodgs football player Matt Turk, who was seriously hurt in a car accident Sunday night.

"It is with great optimism that I send you this email to you regarding Matt Turk's condition. Matt is responding well to his treatment and is stabilizing. Matt remains in the ICU, while still in a medically-induced coma, his brain activity is showing very promising signs and his vital signs have also regulated to a good level. Matt must remain stable, still in critical condition, for next 48 hours, and then the team of doctors (providing) his care will determine the next course of action to repair several broken bones, lacerations and dislocations. Matt has a fractured femur and several facial fractures that will require surgery.

"Matt's parents appreciate all the support from our staff and have given consent to share his progress with you. Matt has a very difficult journey to recovery and he needs our thoughts and prayers to help him endure the coming days, they are going to be very challenging. When we are provided additional information in respect to Matt's condition we will share with you immediately..."

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: Brownsburg is preparing for its high school football sectional game this week with Ben Davis, but the football program – and school – is praying for one its seniors.

Matt Turk is in critical condition at Methodist Hospital on Sunday night after he was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning, according to a Methodist spokesperson.

“I had a conversation with (Turk’s) mother and it’s very serious,” Brownsburg football coach John Hart said. “They are asking for everybody’s prayers.”

On Monday morning, the Brownsburg High School football Twitter account shared the following statement from the Turk family:

"Matthew is still very critical. Besides the obvious head injury we are now trying to get his blood pressure stabilized. I believe in the power of prayer."

The statement added that coaches will visit Turk in the hospital Monday night.

Family, friends and others spent the hours after the crash filling social media timelines messages of love and support to Turk.

Hart did not have any further details. Turk is a defensive back and special teams player for the Brownsburg football team, which will play Ben Davis in a Class 6A sectional game on Friday.

There were two others with Turk at the time of the accident. Derek Lucas is in stable condition and Dale Smith has been discharged, according to the Methodist spokesperson.
