The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced state license branches will extend hours in the days leading up to the Nov. 8 election to help Hoosiers prepare for election day.

Hours at all license branches will be extended Nov. 7-8 to issue free, state-issued identification cards and driver's licenses that can be used as identification at the polls, according to a news release.

Branches will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Branches will only process requests for new, amended or replacement ID cards and for renewed, amended or replacement licenses or learner permits. New licenses or permits will only be processed if the applicant has completed the required testing. ID cards can be issued to unlicensed residents if they can provide required documentation and if they can prove they will be at least 18 on or before the upcoming election.

Those wishing to apply for an ID card or license will be required to provide the following documentation:

  • Proof of identity and proof of lawful status, like a birth certificate or passport
  • Proof of Social Security, like a Social Security card or a pay stub or W-2 statement that contains the applicant's full Social Security number
  • Two proof of residency documents, like a voter registration card, utility bill or bank statement

Branches will resume normal hours on Wednesday, Nov. 9. For a complete list of documentation required to get an ID or license, visit myBMV.com.
