Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in the March death of a Ben Davis High School student.

William Mosley, 20, will face preliminary murder charges in Marion County after detectives connected him to the death of 18-year-old Renia Woods, according to police.

Woods' body was found behind a trash bin on the city's east side days after her mother reported her missing.

Mosley is currently in the Hancock County Jail on motor vehicle theft charges, according to online court records. Once he is released, he will be transported to Marion County on an open warrant for murder, according to a news release.

Police Chief Troy Riggs said in a statement Wednesday that police, as well as family, felt the effects of the "tragic" loss.

“This was a tragic case where a young woman with a promising future was stolen from a loving family," Riggs said. "Our homicide detectives felt that sting as well, and with diligence, they were able to identify and get an arrest warrant issued for the man believed to be responsible for Renia’s death. I am proud of our detectives for working to bring some closure for this family and all of those who were affected by her loss."
