Indiana Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly met with Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch last week. Donnelly, a Democratic, is facing increasing pressure from Republicans to support Gorsuch.

The Indiana Senate resolution asking for U.S. Sens.  Joe Donnelly and Todd Young to vote for President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick was withdrawn Thursday.

State Sen. James Buck, R- Kokomo, was the author of legislation that called for Donnelly and Young to approve Judge Neil Gorsuch.

Before withdrawing his resolution on the Senate floor, he said he never intended to "embarrass" either senator.

"Knowing that my colleagues may think there's political mischief at foot and that I'm trying to embarrass either Sen. Young or Sen. Donnelly, that’s not my intent," Buck said. "If that in fact has happened and entered into one's mind, I want that to be assured that’s never been my attempt, and as such I've withdrawn the resolution."

He said he proposed the legislation to show how much power the state has lost, and how much more effective the U.S. Congress could be if it listened to the states.

Neither Young nor Donnelly issued an additional comment about Gorsuch in light of the resolution. Both Senators have spent time with Gorsuch. While Young, a Republican, spoke highly of Gorsuch, Donnelly, a Democrat, said he was still evaluating the judge and his experience.

“I take my responsibility seriously to consider judicial nominees, including to the Supreme Court," Donnelly said. "As I have said, part of my job as Senator is to meet, consider, debate and vote on judicial nominations. I will continue to carefully review Judge Gorsuch’s record and qualifications in the coming weeks and will be following his hearing before the Judiciary Committee.”
