Police tape surrounds the scene of an investigation.

Authorities in Fulton County are investigating after a deer was found alive and on fire on the side of the road.

Police were called to the intersection of Ind. 25 and County Road 400 North near Rochester in the early morning of Feb. 16, where the deer was found on fire by a passerby, according to a news release.

Investigators believe the deer was struck by a vehicle believed to be a blue or black 1992-2002 Camaro, Trans-Am, Firebird or similar, based on car parts found at the scene.

Police say the deer was still alive when someone poured accelerant over it and set it on fire.

Officers with the Fulton County Sheriff's Department put the deer down after they found it smoldering at the scene.

Investigators ask that anyone with information regarding the incident contact the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department Crime Stoppers at (574) 223-7867 or Indiana Conservation Officers Turn in a Poacher Line at (800) TIP-IDNR.
