Staff Best Things: Popcorn that would make seeing even a bad movie worthwhile

Watching movie on Smart TV & with Popcorn

Digital producer Channing King's staff pick for the best popcorn to make even a bad movie worthwhile: Fresh Pop'd Popcorn Company.

Indiana knows and loves its popcorn — c'mon, we gave the world Orville Redenbacher — which is why discovering a great popcornery is so exciting. A bag of Fresh Pop'd popcorn always hits the spot.

Striking the right balance between the corn itself and a light dash of flavor, the popcorn doesn't have that "soggy" texture that plagues many places that prepare it in bulk. It's even better when it's fresh out of the popper, so try to go when there are big conventions Downtown and the popcorn has to be remade again and again.

(A caveat: by "popcorn," I'm referring to it in its traditional sense, with at most some cheese powder added. Just Pop In's stuff is fan-freaking-tastic, but with all the coatings and glazes applied to it, it is to traditional popcorn what Cocoa Pebbles is to brown rice: utterly delicious but only superficially the same thing.)

I'm not suggesting you swing by the Fresh Pop'd booth, pick up a bag and sneak it into your movie up on the fourth floor of Circle Centre, but I'm also not not suggesting it.
