Indianapolis weather: Breezy, sunny as storm damage checked

Paul Poteet

Three National Weather Service Survey Teams will be out surveying the damage across Central Indiana today. These three teams will survey the following:

Team #1:

Veedersburg-Lafayette-Kokomo

Team #2:

Lebanon ENE to near Tipton

Team #3:

Vincennes-Washington, in southern Indiana

Northern Indiana's Weather Service will investigate reports of tornadoes in Pulaski, Cass, and Allen County.

Tornado reports compiled by the Storm Prediction Center as of Monday morning total anywhere from 68 to 81, depending on how they are "filtered." That count will be revised - likely downward - as investigators determine how many of the reports are duplicates.

Wind gusts can be destructive even without the spin of a twister, as was proved at the old Irvington Post Office Sunday. The National Weather Service measured a 67 mph wind gust yesterday, and there were several reports of 70-80 mph wind gusts with the passage of the squall line.

SUNDAY RAINFALL:

2.48" Indianapolis

1.47" Terre Haute

1.34" Bloomington

1.06" Muncie

0.79" Lafayette

It will still be a bit breezy today, but the 20 mph gusts won't seem so bad. The next rain chance comes Thursday and Friday, and it's not associated with a significant storm. Temps this week won't stray too far from average, in either direction. Here's to a boring week!
