Kathy Griffin is sharing her side of the story.

During a Twitter Q&A on Tuesday, the Grammy winning comedian referred to pop singer Demi Lovato as the "biggest douche celebrity." Then came a firestorm from Lovato's fans.

"As a comedian, I just live for something like this. I mean this is comedy gold," Griffin said about the drama during a phone interview Wednesday.

Griffin said it was nothing personal. She said she also tweeted about Mel Gibson Tuesday night. "What's funny is, none of the Mel Gibson fans threatened my life yesterday."

While she may have started the "war," Griffin said Lovato's fan base went a little too far with tweets like, "I really hope you commit sue of side tonight" and "#KATHY slit your throat you ugly b**** you deserve cancer i hope your whole familys burns to the ground."

Recording artist Demi Lovato on Feb. 27, 2014, attends "united4:humanity" at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, Calif.

Griffin's original tweet was deleted but she believes that was a glitch on Twitter's end.

"As a comedian it's very important for me that you know, I would never delete something outrageous," she said.

So does she actually feel that way about the singer or was it just in good fun?

"Look, I think that this is a 21-year-old woman, this isn't a kid, and she's got her followers coming at me and then tweets a photo that she had taken where I'm in the background and this is a photo I never knew she took. She keeps it on her phone for like two years and then tweets it in the middle of all of her fans telling me to get cancer? I would classify that as a douchy thing to do."

Still, Griffin stands by the tweet.

"I stand by all my jokes, clean, filthy and everything in between," she said.
