Josh Kaufman is a Top 20 competitor on "The Voice."

He's made the Top 20. The next challenge on "The Voice" for Hoosier Josh Kaufman is reaching the Top 12 and live telecasts of the NBC talent search.

The process begins tonight, when the first of three "playoff" episodes airs on WTHR-13. The first live show is scheduled for April 21. (Kaufman's next appearance could happen tonight or on April 14 or on April 15).

Celebrity coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Usher and Shakira each have five team members, and they will whittle rosters to three to make up the Top 12.

Kaufman started as a member of "Team Adam," but he shifted to "Team Usher" last week after Levine decided Delvin Choice edged Kaufman during a rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours." Judge for yourself here. Usher pounced on the chance to steal Kaufman for his team.

Finally, thanks to YouTube, we can check out Kaufman as a teenage performer on bygone TV series "Star Search." In this 1993 clip, Kaufman -- then a resident of Blacksburg, Va. -- sings a rendition of Tim Miner's "Did I Forget to Say?"

Tonight's episode of "The Voice" will air at 8 p.m.
